INCOMING PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

In 1902 the Parent Orange Tree was planted on the corners of Magnolia and Arlington Avenues in Riverside. The historical landmark was installed February 17, 1933.

Romantic themes of rural life and healthfulness helped shape the market for citrus, as well as the grower’s conceptions of their own life styles. Inherent in the evolution of this version of the California Dream, the Washington Navel orange remains a mighty symbol.

The industrial revolution converged on Riverside’s citrus district around 1900. Over the next several years the city became the world center for the manufacture of citrus packing equipment.

THEY BUILT THE REGION TOGETHER. Southern California citrus culture was the product of a combined effort by many groups of people. Each dreamed the California dream – they made this dream a reality.

California Association for Healthcare Quality has planted a “seed”. We have had the opportunity to see this seed develop and grow into our “Dream”. The seed was nurtured by dedicated professionals in the quality arena. Joining forces, the commitment evolved into the dream of providing transparency and patient safety as part of the quality movement.

A major step towards achieving this goal involves providing the right tools and professional growth opportunities to our members.

In keeping with this strategic goal for 2010, CAHQ has partnered with Disney to present “Disney’s Approach to Quality Service for Healthcare Professionals” on July 27, 2010 at the Endowment Center in Los Angeles. Members who attended the annual conference March 30, 2010 got a “taste” of the Customer Service culture that Disney has built and will be sharing with us in July. Don’t miss this dynamic program. Plan to bring a team with you. This program will definitely inspire all of us!

I am committed to devote this year to develop other programs that will provide unique educational opportunities to further challenge us as healthcare quality professionals and prepare us to continuously improve patient safety in California.
